Market Table

(54 Carmine St at Bedford St)

Last Thursday we started our night by watching Amy Scherber of Amy’s Bread give a demonstration based on her recipes for her famous artisan style breads.  After this, we headed to Market Table for dinner – having heard rave reviews, we were looking forward to this dinner all week!

Market Table has a cozy and casual atmosphere – upon entering, there’s a wonderful view of the kitchen where Mikey Price prepares his Seasonal American food.  Everything on the menu sounded so delicious, it took us a few minutes to finally decide what to order.

beef carpaccio – “french fry salad”, parmesan, egg, dijon
~I don’t usually order beef carpaccio, but all the ingredients sounded so good, I decided to give it a try – and I’m glad I did!  I wasn’t exactly sure what “french fry salad” would be, but it’s exactly what it sounds like – french fries in my salad.  Combining the beef, fries, tangy dressing, and other elements into a single bite created a surprising flavor and texture profile that was to die for – so so so good!~

gnocchi - braised lamb, escarole, olives, pecorino
~Jeff’s comments on the gnocchi – “Outstanding.  The lamb was some of the best braised lamb I’ve ever had.  Succulent and moist.  It wasn’t strong or pungent as some lamb can be.”~

grilled arctic char – creamed leeks, shiitake, balsamic, crispy onions
~I enjoyed this arctic char quite a bit – the sauce and shiitake mushroom were so flavorful and complimented the fish nicely.  I did have a few bites that were a tad too salty for my taste.~

black angus strip steak - mushroom fricassee, goat cheese fritters
~Jeff’s comments on the steak – “The meat and the sauce were very good – although I felt the char flavor was a little too strong for my taste.~

brussels sprouts – pear, bacon, pecans
~These brussel sprouts were delicious!  The bacon and the sweetness of the pears and candied pecans were the perfect compliment to the bitterness of the brussels sprouts.~

chocolate pot de creme – sea salt, port wine cherries
~I love the combination of salt and chocolate.~

We really enjoyed Market Table and look forward to our next visit – perhaps for brunch.  The appetizers were so substantial (and tasty!) that I would consider ordering one for my entree next time or maybe sharing a main with Jeff.
