Jeff and I had dinner at Market Table last February and thought it was excellent – so we decided to give it a try for brunch on Sunday. I love Market Table’s space – the exposed wood and brick and ample windows make for an open and comfortable atmosphere.
Sugar & Salt
~I also love Market Table’s simple presentation of things like sugar and salt.~

asparagus homefries
~I’m not usually a fan of breakfast potatoes, but these were delicious!~

poached eggs – buttermilk biscuits, grilled ham, hollandaise on the side
~These eggs were cooked perfectly. But I think what really made this dish was the buttermilk biscuit which was incredibly moist and buttery with the perfect suggestion of salt. Soooo good!~

quiche du jour – mushroom, broccoli, and pepper jack
~This crust was flaky and buttery and really made the quiche.~

Our brunch at Market Table was one of the best we’ve in NYC – we can’t wait to go back!

Jane…worth the wait…especially if you have a mimosa in hand.
Last weekend, Jeff and I decided to head down to Chelsea in hopes of finding a good brunch spot. As we were waiting for the 1 train, we decided to see if there were any last minute reservations at Jane in the Village – and we were in luck! Arriving at Jane just in time for our 1:45pm reservation, we had little hope that we would actually get seated at 1:45pm as it was packed. Jeff and I haven’t been to Jane in years, and when we finally got seated and got our food, we were reminded why we were willing to wait over 30 minutes past our reservation. Jane’s food is so so so good.
Roasted Turkey Sandwich – cheddar, romaine, cranberry-mustard spread, multigrain, fries
~You can definitely taste the cranberry-mustard spread in this sandwich. But I have to make special mention of the fries – they are honestly some of the best fries I’ve had in NYC. I love that almost every fry has a good amount of crispy potato skin – but the fresh rosemary is really what makes these fries addictive.~

BLT & E - sunny up egg, crisp bacon, bibb lettuce, tomato, lemon aioli, side salad subbed for fries
~I would definitely order this sandwich the next time I’m at Jane for brunch. While all the ingredients are pretty standard for brunch, their combination with the delicious bun really makes for a perfect brunch sandwich.~

On Sunday, Jeff and I went to brunch with my cousins who had taken the train down from Connecticut for the day. We definitely wanted to take them somewhere with a good atmosphere and good food. Jeff had been to Noho Star years ago and remembered it being really good. Noho Star does not take reservations, but since we were able to get there just before 11am, we thought we would be in good shape to get a table without too much of a wait.

Wow – what a gem! Noho Star was great! We started with a few brunch-themed drinks – Mimosas made with champagne, triple sec, and orange juice and Bloody Marys made with bloody mary mix, jalapeno, and balsamic vinegar.

Then we moved on to our brunch dishes:
Eggs Idaho – Sunnyside Eggs with Potato Pancakes and Sausage

Omelette – three organic eggs with feta, tomatoes, rosemary, and thyme, served with home fries and salad

Eggs Hauge – Poached Eggs, Smoked Salmon, Basil Pesto, Black Pepper Biscuit

Bruschette – Soft Scrambled Eggs, Goat Cheese and Sundried Tomatoes

Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was fun and casual – good choice, Jeff! We’ll definitely go back to Noho Star – but only if we can get there before 11am – it was totally packed with people waiting outside by the time we left.
Kik and Jenny – Thanks! We had a great time on Sunday!

We’ve been to Bar Boulud a few times for dinner, but this was our first time for brunch.
Gauffre Belge – Belgian waffle, whipped cream, fruit compote
(not pictured)
~We ordered a small plate of these waffles to start and they were absolutely delicious (and we were so hungry that I totally forgot to take a picture). The whipped cream was amazing, not too sweet, the best I’ve ever had really. We think the pastry chef may have added a tiny hint of liqueur, though we weren’t exactly sure which kind.~
Croque Madame – warm housemade ham, gruyère cheese and béchamel
~This croque madame was delicious. Crispy and cheesey with a perfectly cooked egg on top.~
Oeufs Florentine – poached eggs with ham, spinach, hollandaise sauce, whole wheat toast
~We really liked the whole wheat toast, a nice alternative to an English muffin. And while all the other components were good as well, the spinach was a bit overly buttered and salty in spots.~

Last weekend we were in Chicago visiting friends and family. Our friends suggested Sunday brunch at Duchamp, a relatively new restaurant that took over the space where Meritage used to be. Since we had about a 45 minute wait for a spot at one of the communal tables, we sat at the bar and ordered Mimosas and the east-meets-west hot wings to tide us over.
Once we were seated, we ordered some tasty brunch/lunch dishes:
grilled chorizo and egg quesadillas with red pepper, onions & salsa
grilled flatbread with tomatoes, feta cheese, spinach & sunny–side up eggs
duchamp havarti cheese burger with tomato rémoulade – add egg over easy (yes, please)
Turns out the tomato remoulade was so good, we dipped just about everything in it.
